Benjamin Avila, 71 of Lincoln formerly of Grand Island died on May 8, 2025.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 3rd at St. Mary's Cathedral with Celebrant, Father Jorge Canela. Burial of ashes will be in the Westlawn Cemetery.
All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Benjamin was born on March 31, 1954 in Grand Island the son of Charles and Delores (Reynaga) Avila. He was a graduate of Grand Island Senior High. He received his degree from UNL where he was a member of the UNL Marching Band, serving as a band major. Benjamin worked for the Houston Independent School District where he helped establish a student teaching exchange program with the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Benjamin's positive accomplishments helped him become a GIPS Hall of Honor recipient.
Survivors include nephews, D.J. and Marty Avila and their families; sister-in-law, Cindy Avila; aunts, Josie Guerrero and Connie Reynaga and many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve Avila.
