Betty Ann (Dunder) Jonak, 90 of Grand Island, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017 at CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center with family by her side.Funeral Services will be Monday, July 3, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with The Reverend Martin Egging officiating. A visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Sunday, July 2 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a Vigil service beginning at 7 PM. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.Memorials... are to be designated to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Online condolences and words of comfort may be directed to www.livson.com.She was born June 13, 1927 near Archer, NE, to Charles and Anna (Davis) Dunder. She grew up on the family farm near Archer and attended rural school before attending Central City High School, graduating in 1944. She then attended summer college in Central City in 1944 where she received her teaching certificate.Betty began her teaching career in 1944 in a rural country school. Betty married Daniel Jonak on May 20, 1947. They farmed North of St. Paul before moving to a farm near Cotesfield. The family later moved to a farm near Grand Island in 1953. She began teaching again at that time in Merrick and Hall counties. She taught kindergarten at Stolley Park School for several years before retiring.She and Daniel moved to Central City after their retirements for 20 years and then moved back to the family farm. They later moved to Grand Island in 2006.She enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and helping Dan on the farm. Some of her favorite hobbies were crocheting, quilting, oil painting and embroidering pillow cases.She is survived by her children and their spouses, Larry and Susan Jonak of Omaha, Barbara and John Hovie of Grand Island, and Joyce Andrews of Iowa City, IA; two sisters, Elaine Petersen of Grand Island and Judy and Robert Hilder of Central City.Other survivors include her grandchildren and their spouses, Alison and Ted Taylor of Omaha, Paul and Carrie Jonak of Moreno Valley, CA, Philip Jonak of Omaha, Nathen and Rachel Hovie of Grand Island, SiAra and Brian Rasmussen of Grand Island, Kip and Heather Hovie of Grand Island and Jody Hagerty of North Liberty, IA; Eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces nephews and other family members.Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel in 2008.
