...

Carolyn was born July 13, 1944 in Lynch, Nebraska to Perry and Ina (Jones) DeKay. She was the youngest, a sweet baby girl with four older brothers. Her early years were spent on the family farm near Verdel and then later she moved to Plainview with her mom after the sudden death of her father.
While working at the Plainview movie theater, 16-year-old Carolyn met the love of her life, James (Jim) Masat. They were married on December 10, 1962 and spent the next 55 years loving and supporting each other. Carolyn's life revolved around her family. She was devoted mom to Todd, Doug and Rob and the best mother-in-law Christine and LeAnn could have asked for. When the grandkids, Brian, Cori, Andy, Rebecca and Alli came along, you found her cheering them on at countless sporting events and school activities. She always made their favorite dishes at family meals. She welcomed Stephenie, Victoria, Ryan and Bryce into the family. She was great-grandma to Zoey, Gemma, Nathan and Natalie. She enjoyed working, going out with friends and traveling, especially to see her brother, Gerald, in California.
She was an active member of St. Mary's parish. She loved Neil Diamond, Wheel of Fortune and her cat, Bart. She was fun, generous and kind. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by many. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Todd, infant sister. Alvera, brothers, Norman, Arlen, Gordan and other dear ones close to her.
A memorial fund will be established in memory of Carolyn at a later date
