Obituary

Clemence "Clem" P. Wieczorek, 82, of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Veteran's Affairs Hospital.Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 7p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the rosary at 7.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Fr. Mike McDermott will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Veteran's Honor Guard and U.S. Army Honor Guard.All Faiths Funeral is serving the family.Clem was born on April 22, 1934 in Rockville, NE, son of Michael and Mary (Hansen) Wieczorek.Clem grew up near Bolus and later on, Grand Island. He graduated from Grand Island High School and continued his education at the Trade School in Milford.In 1958, Clem was drafted into the U.S. Army; he was stationed in Ft. Lewis, WA, until he received his honorable discharge on November 30, 1963.He was united in marriage with Barbara Dukat on January 3, 1959. This union was blessed with six children. The family made their home in Grand Island, where Clem was employed as a diesel mechanic until he opened his own repair shop where he would service and repair drywall tools.Clem not only could he fix any tools that were brought to his shop, he also had a green thumb. During the spring and summer, Clem would be found in his expansive garden growing large watermelons, pumpkins, and numerous ears of sweet corn. He took pride not only in his garden but also the upkeep of his lawn. He also enjoyed watching and sharing his harvest with the small animals that would call his yard home. Clem adored his family, and was always there for his grandchildren's events. With his witty sense of humor he enjoyed teasing the grandchildren as well as the rest of his family and friends too. He was devoted to his faith and was a parishioner of Resurrection Catholic Church. He enjoyed Husker sports and polka dancing at the Eagles Club.He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Grand Island; children, Joan (Steve) Ruskamp, Dodge NE; David (Veronica) Wieczorek, Grand Island, NE; Linda (Chuck) Elley, Scottsbluff NE; Paul (Ann) Wieczorek, San Jose CA; Sharon McCoy, Gretna NE; Sandra Wieczorek, Key West, FL; sisters, Stella (William) Schleicher, St. Libory NE; Helen (Honore) Lartigue, Memphis TN; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; along with numerous extended family and friends.Clem was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Aaron Wieczorek; brother and sisters, Verna Cuckler; Joseph Wieczorek, Leo Wieczorek, Melvin Wieczorek.Memorials are suggested to Resurrection Catholic Church.
