Connie Smith, 62 of Silver Creek, NE passed away quietly at her home in Silver Creek on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 after a courageous battle with Cancer. Celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3rd at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Burial of ashes will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. It is Connie's wishes to be cremated. Her family will be greeting friends prior to the services. Connie was born September 9, 1954 to William and Dorothy McDonald. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Michael Lemburg. She is survived by her sons, Travis McDonald of Grand Island, Leon McDonald and Katie Kohl of Monroe; four grandchildren, Morgan, Robert, Tanner and Tess; brother, Dan and Irene McDonald of San Diego, Ca; sisters, Sharon Boyd of Grand Island, Janell Lemburg of Grand Island, Dianne and Phillip Fischer of Clarks and Kimberly Redditt of Vicksburg, Ms. and many cousins, nieces and nephews.She grew up in Grand Island until her sophomore year when her family moved to a house on the river in Dannebrog. She attended s Grand Island Public Schools and Centura High school in Cairo where she graduated in 1972. Connie was a strong and prideful person who worked hard and raised her two sons entirely on her own. Her career in restaurant and bar spanned forty five years. She worked at "Vishay Intertechnology" in Columbus for five years until leaving due to her declining health. Connie's biggest joy was her sons and her grandson Tanner; if you wanted to make her smile all you had to do was mention Tanner's name. Her hobbies included cooking, baking and crocheting. She crocheted a beautiful afghan for each of her siblings as a remembrance. She loved the Fourth of July firework shows at Fonner Park. She would often bake cookies and pies for family and neighbors in Silver Creek. For several years she was an avid pool player and competed and won several tournaments. The family would like to give a special thank you to all her doctors, medical staff, Hospice and neighbors that helped Connie through the past couple years, especially her neighbor Marlene who checked on her several times a day and helped whenever needed.Memorials are suggested to G.R.A.C.E., Grand Island Area Cancer Endowment.
