Obituary for Delbert "Gene" Buettgenback

Delbert E. "Gene" Buettgenback, 74, of Grand Island died Monday, March 13, 2017, at Grand Island Veterans' Home. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9:00 am until service time. Service and celebration of Gene's life will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Grand Island Veterans Honor Guard. Gene was born July 10, 1942, to Allen and Arlynne (Schulz) Buettgenback, on his parent's farm in Webster County, Nebraska. He graduated from Campbell High School, Class of 1960. Gene entered the United States Army on September 14, 1967 and was honorably discharged July 19, 1968. On March 21st, 1969, he married Mary Avila and together they had three children. Gene loved his family and was a wonderful father. Having grown up on the farm, he was always happiest outdoors. He loved gardening and his lawn was always impeccable. He enjoyed cars and loved Ford tractors. Gene was employed by Werner Construction and retired from Johnson Concrete Products of Hastings. He was a member of the American Legion Post 314 in Wood River. Survivors include his children, Kory (Jessica) Buettgenback of Branson, Missouri, Tiffnie (Todd) Yost of Fairfield, NE and Jared (Kara) Buettgenback of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; eleven beloved grandchildren, Julian, Evan and Audrey Buettgenback, Christian Garcia, Ashton Garcia, Tanner Yost, Megan (Sieg) Brauer, Alexis (Jorge) Escobedo, Tessa Kehn, Satara Kehn and Paityn Buettgenback; a brother, Larry Buettgenback (Marlene Mead) of Gibbon, nephew, Cody (Susan) Buettgenback of Glenrock, WY; and niece, Stacy (Rick) Koch of Lincoln, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are suggested to the family.
