Donald L. "Don" Naab, 82, of Grand Island, formerly of Wood River, died on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Celebrant is the Rev. Donald Buhrman. Burial of ashes will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Donald was born Aug. 11, 1935. in Comstock, to Walter Ivan and Ferne (Donahue) Naab. The family lived in McCook and Indianola before moving to Wood River in the late 1930s. Don attended school in Wood River, excelling in sports and graduated in 1953. He then attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln, majoring in business administration.
Don worked for Peter Kiewit keeping books on road projects that took him to Wyoming, where he settled in Lander. He later was employed by U.S. Steel in quality control with metallurgists, serving also as a safety officer and EMT. He also worked for the Bureau of Reclamation as a safety officer.
In 1986, Don returned to school at CCC in Hastings to earn a dental technician degree and worked for dental labs in Salt Lake City and Casper, Wyo.. He married Carolyn Pope in 1988 and they made their home in Grand Island, where Don was employed by Electrical Contractors, Inc. until 2002.
An avid outdoorsman, Don enjoyed snowmobiles, fly fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, Christina, Greg and Gary; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two small sons, Donald Ivan and Jeffery Allan; and a brother, Darrel.
