Donald D. Ostrander, 86, of Grand Island died Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy and United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Ostrander was born Aug. 13, 1930, on the family farm near Belgrade, the son of Vern and Ella (Tschudin) Ostrander.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Becky (Mark) Otto of Phillips, Donna (Tad) Larsen of Grand Island, Kate (Rob) Ruger of Grand Island, Wendy (Cory) Bunde of Tennessee, Bill Ostrander of Grand Island and Doug (Barb) Ostrander of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Verle Ostrander, Dick Ostrander and Roger Ostrander; and sisters, LaVonne Gingrich, Judy Imus and Jane Schwartz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; sister, Pauline Wiles; and son, Roger Ostrander.
Donald was raised in Belgrade, graduating with the Belgrade High School class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on Nov. 10, 1954. On April 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Beverly Martin. They made their home in Columbus, Central City and Grand Island. Don's profession as a truck driver led him to work for Behlen Manufacturing and the Wheelers Stores for many years as well as other trucking firms. He was proud to have been a driver on the "Million Dollar Ride" for the Seattle World's Fair in 1962.
He was a member of the American Legion in Doniphan and the Eagles.
A memorial fund will be established in memory of Don.
