Dorothy E. Helmbrecht, 93, of Grand Island passed on Friday, August 26, 2016.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Jack Gillam officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born December 4, 1922, in Grand Island to Adolph and Ella (Brummond) Shipman. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on March 7, 1923. She attended grade school northwest of Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High.
Dorothy and Arnold Helmbrecht were united in marriage on June 21, 1942. They resided on a farm northwest of Grand Island for many years until the death of her husband on February 7, 1975. She later moved to Grand Island where she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity LWML, Ruth Society and attended Wednesday morning bible classes.
Dorothy was a former employee of Stolley's Bakery for many years, worked for The Foster Grandparents, volunteered for the Caring Grandparents at Trinity Lutheran School and donated over 2500 hours of volunteer time at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with playing cards with friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Donald (Shirley) Helmbrecht of Kearney; three daughters, Marilyn Glover Vang (Ray), Donna (Steve) Hibbard, all of Grand Island and Carol (Robert) Haubold of Tioga, Texas; ten grandchildren; 16 and soon-to-be 17 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Jensen of Huntsville, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; mother and father; infant great-grandson; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Mike Pasciak; brother-in-law, Marvin Jensen; stepfather, Lester Washburn; and two stepsisters, Marie Lechner and Edna Cole.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran School or Heartland Lutheran High School.
