Obituary

Evaline L. Davis, 102, of Grand Island passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at Brookfield Park Nursing Home in St. Paul, with family by her side.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Martin Egging officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a vigil rosary beginning at 6 p.m.

Evaline was born on April 3, 1915, to John and Adelia (Rayles) McCarty at Merna. She attended Merna High School and graduated with the Class of 1934. She taught school for a short period of time before marriage in Dale Valley near Merna.
She married T. LeRoy Davis on Oct. 17, 1936, at Burwell. Together they made their home in Broken Bow, later moving to Cairo, and finally making their home in Grand Island. She worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant, working with the ammunition. She also worked at several different ladies' dress shops before owning and operating her own specialty dress shop with her daughter, Renee. The shop, named Rona Lee's, operated in Grand Island for 21 years.
She was an avid dancer and loved traveling, gambling and especially entertaining and spending time with her family. She was also able to live at home until she was 99.
She was a member of the Liederkranz, Eagles, Saddle Club (her favorite dining establishment) and Catholic Daughters Court Queen of Peace 2227. She also was a past member of the Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son and his wife, Robert and Adrianna Davis of Grand Island; her daughter and her husband, Renee and Craig Widga of Grand Island; four grandchildren and their spouses, Janell and Hilario Alcorta of Grand Island, Clifton and Colleen Davis of West Bend, Wis., Alaina Miller of Grand Island and Cedric and Jamie Davis of Ralston; 11 great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; her brother, Arthur and Margie McCarty of Omaha; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend for more than 50 years, Blanche Janulewicz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T. LeRoy, in 1994; her parents; brothers and sisters, Joseph, Juanita, Monica, Frances, Ella, John and Raymond; and three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
