James Michael Cochnar, 61, of Grand Island, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel, with The Rev. Sid Bruggeman officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m., with a rosary at 9 a.m., at the funeral home.
He was born on June 28, 1957, in Grand Island to James F. and Anna Mae (Carkoski) Cochnar. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1975. He graduated from Central Community College in Hastings in 1977. He earned an associate's degree in hotel/motel/restaurant management. The majority of his work life was spent working for Bosselman Enterprises.
He was a member of the Catholic faith. He loved being with his family. He was a kind and generous person.
His interests included a love for trains, airplanes and "Star Trek." He was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing what he read with others. Although he did not have pets of his own, he loved family members' pets as if they were his own.
He is survived by his brothers, John (Angela) Cochnar, Joe (Cathy) Cochnar and Jerome Cochnar; sisters, Kathy Cochnar, Connie Cochnar, Annie (Alan) Kahle and Cindy (John) Taylor; an aunt and uncle, Robert and Dorothy Ann Pape; and four nieces, six nephews, four great-nieces, six great-nephews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and an aunt and uncle.
