Jerome Jay Cochnar, 51, of Grand Island passed away May 9, 2019.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m, Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sid Bruggeman officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. with a rosary at 9 at the funeral home.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1968, in Grand Island, to James F. and Anna Mae (Carkoski) Cochnar. He grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1986. He graduated from Central Community College-Hastings in 1991, where he earned an associate's degree in automotive and diesel mechanics. The majority of his work life was spent working for Midwest Hydraulics.
He was a member of the Catholic faith. He loved being with his family, and was a kind and generous person.
His interests included a love for fishing, Denver Broncos football, trains and NASCAR. He truly loved and cherished his dogs, Reno and Houdini, and his pet parrot, Jose. He was quite a character and was a big kid at heart. Jerome's good friends called him "Homie."
He is survived by his brothers, John (Angela) Cochnar, Joe (Cathy) Cochnar; sisters, Kathy Cochnar, Connie Cochnar, Annie (Alan) Kahle, Cindy (John) Taylor; aunt and uncle, Robert and Dorothy Ann Pape; four nieces; six nephews; four great-nieces; six great-nephews; and numerous cousins; special friends, Deb Colburn, Joshua and Debbie Colburn and family, Nicole Colburn and family and Dave Willard and Kerry Heider and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Cochnar; grandparents; and an aunt and uncle.
