LaMae Emma Stoltenberg, 91, of Grand Island passed away on July 12, 2024 at CHI Health- St. Francis. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 11:00 am at St Pauls Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jeff Pedersen officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service also at the church. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
LaMae was born on August 7, 1932, in Grand Island, to Henry E. and Hedwig C. (Knuth) Reher. She was raised on a farm near Grand Island. She graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1950.
Her first husband was Darrell Duryee. Three children were born into this union. Later in life, LaMae was united in marriage to Marvin Stoltenberg, and she gained four step-children. Again, she was able to enjoy her farm life for 25 years.
Raising her children and spending time with family was her greatest joy in life. LaMae worked at Rinder Printing as an apprentice and worked her way up to become a printing press operator. She later worked at Record Printing in Cairo. She also worked at the Platt-Duetsche where she was a member for most of her life. Later in life, she worked as a seamstress at The Bridal Collection with her 2 daughters sewing and altering many beautiful gowns for bridesmaids. During her life time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling, dancing, knitting, crocheting, playing cards and baking. Her rolls and pies were family favorites. LaMae didn't retire until 2020 at the age of 88.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Marvin (Shirley) Duryee of Wood River, Carol (Jeff) Helleberg of Sioux Falls, and Pat (Fred) Hotz of Grand Island; 11 grandchildren, Mike (Traci) Duryee, Chris (Laura)Duryee, Michelle (Adam)Dzingle, Kevin (Sheny)Duryee, Kimberly (Derek)Andersen, Andrea Schlattmann, Ross (Cassi) Helleberg, Jenna (Ross)Peterson, Isaac (Anne)Hotz, Ashley (Nathan)Hurlbut, Wil (Emily)Hotz; 21 great grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Rohweder of Grand Island; and step-children, Roy (Mary) Stoltenberg and Ed (Deb) Stoltenberg, both of Cairo, and Judy Humiston and Joyce Taylor, both of Grand Island.
LaMae was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Stoltenberg; parents; and sisters, Roma Stephenson and Caroline Ruzicka.
Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
