Larry was born on July 20, 1946 in Grand Island, son of Fritz and Pearl (Castor) Boersen. He attended Grand Island area schools before enlisting in the U.S. Navy at 17 years old. Larry served during the Vietnam War from December 30, 1963 until his honorable discharge on June 22, 1967.
Once he returned to Grand Island, Larry met Karen and they were united in marriage on January 20, 1968. They made their home in Grand Island and raised their twin daughters, Tabby and Tammy.
For 35 years Larry was employed by Chief Industries in the shipping department and achieved the level of shipping foreman before his retirement.
Larry shared his love for fishing and camping with his family. While at his favorite lake to fish, Johnson Lake, Larry caught a master angler walleye. He also taught his daughters to water ski. Larry enjoyed days spent at the river bottom, and always stopped at Shady Bend for Twin Bings and Coke-Cola to cut firewood. Larry looked forward to the yearly hunting trip with grandson, Shelby at the river bottom. Larry appreciated restored classic cars, the '56 Chevy Bel Air holding a special place for him. He also enjoyed watching the animals in his backyard with his four-legged companion.
Larry is survived by his wife, Karen of Grand Island; daughters, Tabby (Todd) Harders of Cairo and Tammy (Scott) Wiebe of Lincoln; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Rick (Shirley) Boersen, John (Lynnette) Boersen and Fritz Boersen all of Grand Island; sister, Ronda (Walt) Ross of Grand Island; sisters-in-law, Marge Boersen of Grand Island and Cindy Boersen of Phillips; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Mike, Gary and Donald.
