Larry F. Bosak, 63, of Grand Island died peacefully Thursday, March 2, 2017, at home, surrounded by his family. Larry fought a courageous battle with lung cancer for six years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Richard Piontkowski will be the celebrant, with the Rev. James Golka concelebrating. Full Military Honors will be performed following the service. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery at later date.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a Parish Rosary at 7, at St. Mary's Cathedral. Linvingston-Sondermann Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Larry was born Feb. 26, 1954, in Fullerton to Ed and Mary (Downing) Bosak. Larry grew up in Fullerton and attended St. Peter Catholic School in Fullerton, St. John Seminary in Elkhorn and graduated from Fullerton High in 1972.
Larry married the love of his life, Barbara Kosinski, in Aug. 17, 1974, at St. Mary's Cathedral. This union was blessed with two daughters, Samantha and Amanda.
Larry joined the United States Air Force in 1972. Larry was stationed at Offutt AFB, Tyndall AFB in Florida, Osan Air Base in Korea, Peterson AFB in Colorado, Mildenhall AFB in England and Eglin AFB in Florida. He retired from the Air Force after 22 years in 1995 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Also, Larry was in Special Ops and lived in many other parts of the world during many conflicts.
In 1995 the family moved back to Nebraska, where Larry started his second career with Pella Windows. Larry was the Operation Manager for Heartland Pella of Nebraska until his death.
Larry loved working with restoring wood projects, working in the yard and dancing to a good polka. Larry was well known by many for being outside with no shoes on and a beer in his hand. There was always a cool one waiting for anyone who stopped by for a visit.
Larry was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Knights of Columbus. He was not afraid at the end, because he was so strong in his faith.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Samantha (Louis) Borges; grandchildren, Emily and Hunter Borges; brother, Mike Bosak of Fullerton; sisters, Kathy (Leonard) Dubas of Grand Island and Kris Nave of Arizona; sister-in-law, Janice Bosak of Fullerton; brother-in-law, Richard and Maryann Kosinski; sister-in-law, Virginia Boswell of Grand Island; many nieces, nephew and cousins; and his very special dog, Annie.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda Bosak; his parents, Ed and Mary Bosak; brothers, Pat, David and Danny Bosak; sisters-in-law, Cherole Bosak and Leona Miller; his mother- and father-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Kosinski; brothers-in-law, Dutch Boswell and John Miller; and a nephew, Richard Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family and will be divided among Amanda Jo Bosak Scholarship at UNK, Cancer Research and other charitable organizations.
