Leroy Werner
January 9, 1919 - September 15, 2016

Leroy Werner, 97 of Grand Island, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

Services will be at 1:30 PM Tuesday, September 20th at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jack Gillam officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island. Visitation hours will be Monday, September 19th from 4 to 7 PM at the Apfel Funeral Home, Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leroy Werner was born January 9, 1919 in Doniphan, Nebraska the son of Max & Meta (Boltz) Werner. He received his education in a rural school in Doniphan.

He entered the United States Army Signal Corps August 24, 1942 serving during World War II and was honorably discharged February 5, 1946.

He was united in marriage to Ramona Tagge, January 9, 1948 in Wood River, Nebraska. The couple farmed for nine years in Doniphan, later moving to Grand Island where he was employed by the State of Nebraska, Department of Roads in maintenance for 26 years. He retired in 1984.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion and the Platt-Deutsch Society. He enjoyed working in his garden and traveling.

Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Dennis Werner of Symar, California; daughter, Wannetta Nesiba of Brigham City, Utah; four grandchildren, Katrina Werner, John Nesiba, Scott Nesiba and Tim Nesiba; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Ramona Werner.
