Obituary

Letha L. Sonnenfelt, 94, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at Tiffany Square.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Evangelical Free Church. The Rev. Paul Canady will officiate. Entombment will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be prior to the service. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

Letha was born Jan. 14, 1923, on a family ranch near Kilgore, Neb., the daughter of Sylvanus and Sadie (Denton) Robertson.
Survivors include her daughters, Diane (Don) Shaver and Sandy Lawrey, both of Grand Island; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Sonnenfelt of Douglas, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, who died Jan. 23, 2017; a son, Denny; her parents; a great-granddaughter, Emory; and a sister, Cena Hill.
Letha attended grade school at District 10 near her home and graduated from Valentine High School in 1940. Letha began her teaching career the following year as she received a teaching certificate by taking normal training for two years.
On Jan. 18, 1943, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Cecil Sonnenfelt, at Sparta, Wis., while he was stationed at Camp McCoy.

Letha's teaching career lasted from 1940 to 1986, when she retired. In those 46 years she taught 42 years, had 3 children and received her bachelor's degree in education from Chadron State College in 1972.
Letha and Cecil enjoyed traveling in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. She loved time spent with her family and friends. Her faith was very important to her. She had a great love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Because of her love for children and her deep faith, memorials can be made to Evangelical Free Church, where she was a member, to be designated for community outreach to kids at Lincoln Elementary School in Grand Island, and also to True North Church, where her dear friend, Paul Canady, is pastor, and designated for children's ministry, "True North Kidz."
