Obituary

Lyle Dean Metzger, age 83, of Grand Island, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 20th at 11am at Peace Lutheran Church, Pastor Carl Eliason officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19th from 5-7pm at All Faiths Funeral Home. A family graveside service will take place at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church or to the family for future designation. Condolences can be left at www.giallfaiths.com.

Lyle was born on June 11, 1941 in Scribner, NE, the son of Clifton and Lydia (Wegner) Metzger. He was raised in Bancroft, NE and attended elementary school at Zion Lutheran School. He graduated from West Point Public Schools. Lyle was baptized on July 6, 1941 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Scribner, NE and confirmed April 3, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE.

Lyle was united in marriage to Joyce Meier on May 6, 1962 at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. They lived in Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island where they resided since 1966. They were blessed with three children, Steven, Susan and David.

Lyle was a revenue officer with the Internal Revenue Service for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He then worked part-time at Wal-Mart until May 2008. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and served as the financial secretary, usher and on many other committees. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joyce of 62 years and three children, Steve (Kate) Metzger of Grand Island, Susan Walker of Huntsville, AL and David Metzger of Las Vegas, NV, along with five grandchildren, Cody (Rowan) Metzger, Nolan (Becky) and Lee DeMers, Jordan and Kaleigh Metzger.
Also surviving is a sister, Myra Tietz of McCook, NE and two brothers, Kenneth (Marian) Metzger and Marvin (Suzanne) Metzger of Bancroft, NE; brother in-law, Kenton (Sue) Meier; sister in-law, Evelyn Meier along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; baby sister, Delores; sister, Shirley Schulz; a brother, LaVern Metzger; brothers in-law, Leland Tietz, Harold Schulz, Delvin Miller and Eugene Meier and sisters in-law, Lois Metzger and Norma Metzger and a son in-law, Jay D. Smith.
