Obituary for Marlene Helen Sargent
Marlene Helen Sargent, 75, of Grand Island died May 30, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Reverend Marty Egging will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 - 6 PM with a Vigil Service at 6 PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to the GRACE Foundation or to the family for later designation.... Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.She was born on October 17, 1942 on the family farm outside of Stuart, NE to Alois and Frances (Feilmeier) Schmaderer. She was raised on the family farm and attended grade school at St. Boniface Catholic School before graduating from Stuart High School in 1960. On September 29, 1962, she was united in marriage to Edward Sargent in Stuart, NE. The couple lived in various places while her husband Ed was in the Army. The couple settled in Grand Island where they raised their family. She received her Cosmetology Certification from SarRob Beauty School and went on to become a Cosmetology Instructor. Marlene held other various secretarial and office jobs throughout her career. Marlene was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and a past member of the Saddle Club. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bunco with friends and Pitch with her family where she was known for shooting the moon and actually making it. With Ed's insistence she took a conceal carry class, outshot all the men and became known as Bull's-eye Granny. She also enjoyed traveling and dancing with Ed. She especially loved doing all kinds of activities with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Survivors include her children, Jennifer (Raul) Santos of Grand Island, Mark (Paula) Sargent of Grand Island; grandchildren, Tara Liegl, Jacob Corrigan, Jesus Santos, Soriya Santos, Cody Sargent, Lisa Sargent, Dereck Fishler, Jacob Fishler, Jordan Fishler; ten great grandchildren and a baby boy on the way; sisters and brothers-in-law, LaVonne Kulus, Karen (Bob) Baker, Doris Young; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald (Helen) Schmaderer, Maurice (Dorothy) Schmaderer, and Rich (Emmy) Schmaderer; and numerous other extended family members.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack Sargent, Dick and Bunny Sargent, Pat Ward, Ken Kulus and Curt Young.
