Norm was born Aug. 14, 1934, in Shattuck, Okla., to Edward and Bertha (Robert) DeHarde. As a young boy, Norm moved with his family from Texas to Grand Island, where he graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1952. During his years growing up, he returned every summer to Oklahoma to help with the wheat harvest.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1961, having served in Germany. Norm was a devoted veteran and patriot.
On Feb. 20, 1971, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elaine R. Klentz. Together they loved life and enjoyed their many trips together. Norm worked 17 years for Heinzman Irrigation, Kriz Davis and Bosselman Oil.
He was faithful to his family, church, the Tahama Temple Shrine and the Central Nebraska Motor Patrol Shrine Club. For more than 12 years, Norm's labor of love was driving children to the Shriner's Hospital for Children - Twin Cities, Minn.
Norm loved his family. He welcomed many extended family and friends into his home and heart. He was a man of few words, but his passionate spirit was always at work. He listened more than he spoke and had perfected the subtle art of peace. Some of his enjoyments included bowling, hiking in the mountains and roller skating, and he was an expert dancer.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elaine; daughter, Renae Rae (Thad) Haes; two grandchildren, Lilly Rae and Logan Dean; nieces and nephews, Jean (Sargent) Kilcoin, Lenny Sargent, Roy Sargent, Susan (DeHarde) Turnbull; cousins and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Jr.; and sister, Rosalie DeHarde.
