Obituary

WOOD RIVER - Pete Fotinos, 89, of Wood River passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with The Rev. Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, with Full Military Honors, following the service.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a Vigil Prayer Service beginning at 7.

He was born July 15, 1928, at the family home in Scottsbluff to George and Katherine (Johns) Fotinos. His family moved to the current farmstead near Wood River in 1938. Pete attended country school near Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School in 1946. He worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. He married Joyce Becker on Dec. 9, 1952, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
He joined the United States army and served during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He returned from the service and started farming on the family farm in 1955. He farmed until the age of 81.

Pete was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Eagles Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching wrestling and listening to polka music.
He especially enjoyed his grandkids and great-grandkids and was very proud of them.
Pete is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce; daughter, Janice Budd of Grand Island; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Doug and Beth Fotinos of Kenesaw and Troy Fotinos of Kearney; grandchildren and their spouses, J.R. and Amy Shurigar of Fort Collins, Colo., Shannon and Rob Latimer of Rapid City, S.D., Mandy Shurigar of Holstein, Heather and Ted Triggs of Lincoln, Justin Budd and Niki Koch of Bowling Green, Ky., and Mike and Emily Molnar of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jared, Kylee, Zachary, Brooklyn, Dylan, Rylie, Braylin, Calvin, Rowan, Jaiden, Ella and Tyler; sister, Rosie Carruth of Grand Island; sister-in-law, Beverly Becker of Grand Island; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Andy Fotinos; sisters and brother-in-laws, Julia and Wayne Thomas, Liz and George Sullivan, Elmer Carruth, Richard and Lyle Becker, Don Caudilll; sister-in-law, Dorothy Caudill; and nieces and a nephew, Katherine Thomas, Cami Sullivan, Jackson Thomas Latimer and Sandra Van Osdol.
