Obituary for Ralph E Green
Ralph E. Green. 83, of Grand Island passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Adam Snoberger will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors rendered by the United Veteran's Honor Guard. Ralph was born on May 17, 1934 in Marion, OH, son of Walter Sr. and Vita (Compston) Green.Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Betty; daughter, Linda (Harry) Yavoich of Grand Island; brothers, Walker Green JR and Bill Green both of OH; sister, Pearl Millington of OH; grandchildren, Tina (Ryan) Jamison, Megan (Tom) Gray, Matthew (Bobbie) Yavoich, Jeffrey (Christine) Cremblitt, and Bryan (Stacey) Cremblitt; 15 great-grandchildren; along with numerous extended family, friends and his coffee bunch. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sherrill; great-granddaughter, Hailey; father and mother-in-law, Marion and Anna Medbery; brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Don Medbery; and sister-in-law, Judy Medbery.Ralph was raised in Marion, OH. At the age of 14 he joined the carnival, working as an electrician during the summers and returning to Marion to complete his High School education. Following high school Ralph joined the U.S. Marines serving during the Korean War. Once he earned his honorable discharge he began to drive truck as well as working for the carnival during the summer. It was during one of those summers that Ralph met the love of his life, Betty Medbery, at North Loup Popcorn days. On September 5, 1970 they were united in marriage and Ralph settled in Nebraska.After settling in Nebraska, Ralph began employment with Berkley Irrigation and then Stay Right Irrigation as a machinist for the next 20 years. Ralph was never idle and even after he retired due to his health, he started running several paper routes with Betty for the next 21 years. Ralph enjoyed camping, and woodwork out in his garage. After retirement he and Betty decided to remodel a few houses just to stay active. Ralph always had a book with him to read in the car or while watching his favorite gameshow, Jeopardy. Ralph was an avid hat collector and was very rarely found without a hat with a saying on it. He loved life and although he could be ornery, he was always ready to strike up a conversation and never met a stranger.Ralph adored his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and enjoys all family get togethers. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Trinity Lutheran Church.
