Ray was born May 21, 1928, in Grand Island to Stephen and Ruth (Rank) Hayman. He grew up and received his education in Grand Island. On April 10, 1951, Ray enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Korean War as a medic on the front lines in Korea and was honorably discharged on March 6, 1953.
He was united in marriage to Patsy Monson and the couple made their home in Grand Island. Ray retired from The Grand Island Independent after more than 50 years of employment, if you count the fact he started as a paper boy.
Ray was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Until his last years, Ray maintained his active lifestyle and was a fan of swimming and weightlifting. During his time in the Army he was a member of the Army swimming and diving team. He also enjoyed the Korean War reunions he attended and his annual trip to Lake Powell. His other enjoyments included hunting, fishing, Husker football, and especially his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Ross Hayman of Las Vegas, Ray Hayman of Grand Island and Deb Snyder of Grand Island; grandchildren, Kathy Snyder (Jason) Duhrkop of Lincoln and Kelly Snyder of Grand Island; great-grandchildren, Lakyn, Lexi, Haylee and Hayden; great great-grandchildren, Chasen, Elijah and Aria; brothers, Rod Hayman of California and Lowell Hayman and Arnie Hayman, both of Utah; and a sister, Donna Guyette of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy; his parents; a sister and three brothers.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
