Roma Jean White, 82, of Grand Island died Monday, May 1, 2017, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with Derek Apfel officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Grand Island.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Roma Jean was born Sept. 18, 1934, at Wood River, the daughter of Willis and Helen (Wiese) McAhren. She received her education from Grand Island Senior High, graduating with the class of 1952.
She was united in marriage to Jack White on June 5, 1955, in Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island, where she was a long distance operator supervisor for AT&T Telephone Company for 27 years, retiring in 1988. Jack preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 2007.
Roma was a member of First Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher, Girl Scout leader, member of the YMCA and Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed sewing, reading, camping and traveling. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Spending time with her family gave her the greatest enjoyment.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Sindelar of Grand Island, Carol and Rick Eucker of Norfolk, Karen and John Tollinger of Omaha; 10 grandchildren, Ryan and Dara Sindelar, Courtney Sindelar, Kody Sindelar, Jessica and Jason Bauer, J.R. and Molly Eucker, Josh Eucker, Jade Eucker and Travis Chambers, Alex Tollinger, Ben Tollinger and Sam Tollinger; nine great-grandkids, Wyatt, Payton, Braelyn, Rylen, Maclin, Mya, Maddox, Reed and Rhett; and a sister, Darolyn McDonald of Albion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack White; infant son, Steven Craig White; son-in-law, Randy Sindelar; and brother, Gary McAhren.
