- Ronald D. "Honk" Hongsermeier, 66, of Lincoln died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at home.?
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, both at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Ron will be laid to rest in Westlawn Cemetery. Dan Naranjo will officiate.?Family has requested casual attire.
Ron was born on June 15, 1952, in Grand Island to Roger and Phyllis (Brehm) Hongsermeier.?His early school years were spent in Merrick and Hamilton counties. He graduated from Giltner High School, class of 1970.?After graduating he went he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a year and worked at several jobs before being drafted into the United States Army in 1972.?Ron served his country honorably and returned home to work as a machinist at Sperry New Holland.
After leaving New Holland, he worked as a custom harvester, mason tender, block layer and farmer. Ron usually worked two jobs in his younger years to provide for his family.
In 1977, Ron married Teresa Colburn.?In 1987, he married Corbi Callies, and to this union a daughter, Alicia, was born.
Ron worked for Cornhusker Rail Services for 11 years before being hired on to BNSF Railroad. He was a conductor from 1996 to 2018. Ron was very dedicated and truly enjoyed his job.?
Ron, being a lover of the outdoors, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He always had a competition with his dad every year to see who could get the earliest ripe tomato.?He also enjoyed his trips to Sturgis on his Harley, and he was an avid Husker fan.?
As a "Proud Papa" Ron loved to spend time with and brag about his grandchildren, Lawrence, Mason and Bella. Ron had a zest for life and a contagious smile and a one-of-a-kind laugh that you would know who it was from across the room.
He was baptized and confirmed at Messiah Lutheran Church and was a member of the Platt Duetsche, American Legion and numerous dart and pool leagues.
Ron's memory will forever be cherished by his daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Larry Marco; grandchildren, Lawrence, Mason, Bella and one due in April; mother, Phyllis; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Diane Randolph and Barbara and Doug Schultz; a sister-in-law, Patty Hongsermeier; cousin, Mary Redman; nephews, Justin, Jeffrey, Jared and Jordan Groff, Cody and Casey Hongsermeier, and Tina Randolph; and numerous other family and friends.
He was met in heaven by his father, Roger; a brother, Rodney; grandparents; former wife, Corbi; nephew, Jeremy Randolph; aunts; uncles; cousins; and other family and friends.
