Rose Marie Bergholz was born on March 13, 1932, in Brayton, the daughter of William A. and Margaret D. (Schrum) Slattery. She died Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the age of 85, with her family by her side at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral. Celebrating Mass will be the Rev. Donald Buhrman. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a Parish Rosary at 7 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Rose grew up on the family farm in Brayton until age 12, moving to Grand Island and graduating from St. Mary's High School in the class of 1949. She was united in marriage to Raymond L. Bergholz on October 31, 1953.
She was a member of St Leo's Catholic Church and St. Leo's Altar Society. Her work life included working for Spiegel's in Chicago at the age of 18, in Grand Island at Mac's coffee shop, Fonner Park horse racing, Farmland Irrigation and volunteering for the gift shop at St. Francis Hospital. She loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards and board games. She particularly enjoyed her extended family of nieces and nephews, celebrating all birthdays where family get-togethers were full of love and laughter.
Rose is survived by her children, David (Sherri) Bergholz of Henderson, Nev., Paul Bergholz of Grand Island, Jeff (Laurie) Bergholz of Omaha and Julie (Jim) Kuntz of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Chad (Sara) Bergholz of Austin, Texas, Matt (Mandi) Bergholz of Chandler, Ariz., Jason Bucsis of Omaha, Danielle (Darrell) Stegeman of Crecent, Iowa, Kellie Flannigan of Hixson, Tenn., Joshua Bucsis of Lincoln, Sidney and Shelby Bergholz of Omaha and Joseph Kuntz of Lincoln, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; four sisters, Loretta Farlee, Alice Pass, Mary Ann Schindler and Elizabeth Linder; and three brothers, Edward Slattery, John Slattery and Bob Slattery.
