Obituary

Walter L. Johnson, 83, of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at CHI Health St. Francis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Celebrating Mass will be the Rev. Don Buhrman. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors rendered by the U.S. Army and United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m. and a Rosary at 10 at the church.

Walter was born Nov. 21, 1935, at Cairo, the son of Walter T. and Viola (Lilienthal) Johnson. He was raised and received his education in Cairo. On Aug. 19, 1954, he entered the U.S. Army, having served in Germany. While in the service, he enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. He was honorably discharged on July 31, 1957.
Following the military, he lived in Cairo where he worked for Cairo Hatchery and Turner Grain. He moved to Grand Island, working and retiring from Case New Holland.
His memberships included St. Leo's Catholic and a 50-year member of the Eagles. He enjoyed auctions.

Those left to cherish his memory are his special friend of many years, Darlene Layher; brother, LeRoy (Judi) Johnson of Grand Island; niece, Rhonda Hillman; nephews, Lee, Barry and Brent Johnson: and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather, Orville Ruby; a sister-in-law, Carol Johnson: and great-nieces, Raelyn and Kayla.
All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to St. Leo's Catholic Church.
