Wayne F. Gulzow, 86, of Grand Island passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018.
Memorial service and a celebration of Wayne's life will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Daniel Naranjo will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by United States Army and Grand Island Veterans Honor Guard.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 2 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Wayne was born March 12, 1932, in Grand Island, the son of Fred and Carolyn (Schwieger) Gulzow. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High, class of 1950. Wayne was inducted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 2, 1952, serving the majority of the time in Incheon, Korea, and was honorably discharged July 2, 1954. He was honored to be one of the first to take the Hero Flight to Washington, D.C.
For a time, Wayne was owner and manager of Island Excavating. He then owned his own construction business and truly loved woodworking. The last few years he enjoyed his job with Tom Dinsdale Automotive as a courtesy driver.
On Feb. 22, 1990, Wayne was united in marriage to Angeline "Angie" Buhrman. They made their home in Grand Island. Wayne was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, VFW, Legion Post 0300 and the Platt Deutsche. In the past he had been a member of Eagles and Liederkranz.
Wayne loved people, whether visiting or joking around. He and Angie had traveled extensively on this continent and overseas. He also enjoyed their casino trips, dancing, playing cards and gardening, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Those who will cherish his memory include his wife, Angie; his children and their spouses, Lori Gulzow of Denver, Colo., Kim and Chuck Garwood of Peachtree City, Ga., Kerry Gulzow of Las Vegas, Derinda and Joe Eudey of Island Park, Idaho, and Brandon and Kathleen Gulzow of Eaton, Colo; two sisters, Geraldine Mehring and LaDonna Donahoo, both of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
