Obituary

Wilma Jane Dobesh, 89 of Grand Island died on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Tiffany Square Care Home. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Daniel Bremer will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Wilma is survived by three sons, Cletis and Beth of Lincoln, Gregory of Grand Island and Michael and Patty of Wood River; seven grandchildren, Jon Dobesh of Lincoln, Brad and Kelly Dobesh of Grand Island, Klesha and Joshua Miller of Crete, Josh and Stacey Van Pelt and Jacob and Jenna Van Pelt of Lincoln, and Jennifer and Jazzlyn Dobesh of Wood River; plus, eight great-grandchildren and a niece, Karol Alderman of Fairbanks, AK. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ernie, her parents, John and Anna Bangert, a sister, Lavina Kratzke and a niece, Regina Hall. Wilma was born on October 25, 1927 in Webster County to John and Anna (Colburn) Bangert. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church near Guide Rock, attended Zion Parochial grade school and graduated from Lawrence High School. After graduation in 1945, she went to Omaha for classes in communications. This led her to a work position at Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio. On September 15, 1946 she married Ernest Dobesh at Zion Lutheran Church. They lived in Kearney, where Ernie was manager of a hybrid seed company, until 1952, and then relocated to a farm northeast of Wood River. In 1983 they moved to Grand Island. Wilma managed the books for Dobesh Farms Inc. She enjoyed working with genealogy, reading, good music and travel. She was a previous member of Grace Lutheran Church at Wood River and a current member of Grand Island Grace Lutheran Church. Through the years she was involved with Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Circle groups, Alter Guild, and children's Sunday school. Wilma participated in an Extension Club and helped with a 4-H group. She was a member of Rotary Anns and a past member of the Rotary Foreign Youth Exchange. Wilma was civic minded and interested in community progress. She was appointed by Governor Thone to the Rural Health Manpower Commission and appointed an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska. She served on the Grand Island Postal Advisory Board and also the Grand Island/Hall County Crime Stoppers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Heartland Lutheran High School, Grace Lutheran Church Choir of Grand Island or a charity of Donor's Choice.
